NC = Korloy CVD coating series, PC = PVD coating series. NC3120 is a P25 CVD-coated grade for general steel turning at high speeds. PC9030 is a P30 PVD-coated grade for steel and stainless, tougher than NC3120 for interrupted cuts. Both are general-purpose; NC goes faster, PC takes more abuse.

PC9540 (P35 tough grade, PVD coated) or PC8110 (general multi-material) for face and shoulder milling with interrupted cuts. Avoid NC series on heavily interrupted work — CVD coatings chip on impact; PVD is better for shock.
